Visual Studio 2005 and .NET Framework v2.0 log files

The following log files are produced during Visual Studio 2005, .NET Framework 2.0 and J# redistributable package 2.0 setup

Visual Studio Log Files

The following log files are relevant for bugs that occur during installing Visual Studio 2005 setup:

  • dd_depcheck80.txt – located in your %temp% directory
  • dd_vserror80.txt – located in your %temp% directory during Visual Studio 2005 setup; moved to the Logs directory in the path that you installed Visual Studio 2005 to after installation; left in %temp% after a failed installation and after uninstallation
  • dd_vsinstall80.txt – located in your %temp% directory during Visual Studio 2005 setup; moved to the Logs directory in the path that you installed Visual Studio 2005 to after installation; left in %temp% after a failed installation and after uninstallation
  • VSMsiLog****.txt (where * is a randomly-generated suffix) - located in your %temp% directory during Visual Studio 2005 setup; moved to the Logs directory in the path that you installed Visual Studio 2005 to after installation; left in %temp% after a failed installation and after uninstallation

Note: This log tends to be many megabytes in size, so please zip this file before attaching it to an email or a bug report

Note also: When logging a bug against Visual Studio uninstall, please include both versions of vsmsilog*.txt (one from the installation and the other from the uninstallation). Keep in mind that running an uninstall will delete the log files created during installation so please make sure to copy the logs to a share before attempting to uninstall Visual Studio.

If you are running Visual Studio 2005 setup in unattended mode, then the following log files may also be created:

  • AdminBaselineErrorLog.txt – located in your %temp% directory
  • AdminClientErrorLog.txt – located in your %temp% directory

The following log files are relevant for bugs that occur during Document Explorer setup during Visual Studio 2005 setup:

  • dd_dexploreUI*.txt – located in your %temp% directory
  • dd_dexploreMSI*.txt – located in your %temp% directory

The following log files are relevant for bugs that occur during device emulator setup during Visual Studio 2005 setup:

  • dd_sde80UI*.txt – located in your %temp% directory
  • dd_sde80MSI*.txt – located in your %temp% directory

SQL Server Express Edition log files

The following log files are relevant for bugs that occur during SQL Server Express setup:

  • %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup BootStrap\LOG\Files\*.*

Visual Studio Express Edition log files

The following log file is relevant for bugs that occur during Visual Studio Express download:

  • dd_vsinstall80.txt – located in your %temp% directory

The following log files are relevant for bugs that occur during Visual Studio Express setup:

  • dd_*80UI*.txt – located in your %temp% directory
  • dd_*80MSI*.txt – located in your %temp% directory

Note: The first * in the name of these 2 log files depends on which Express Edition is being installed (it could be VB, VCSharp, VC, Venus or VJS).

The following log files are relevant for bugs that occur during MSDN Express setup:

  • dd_msdnexpUI*.txt – located in your %temp% directory
  • dd_msdnexpMSI*.txt – located in your %temp% directory

.NET Framework Log Files

The following log files are relevant for bugs that occur during .NET Framework setup:

  • dd_netfx20UI****.txt – located in your %temp% directory after .NET Framework setup; needed for all bugs during .NET Framework installation or uninstallation
  • dd_netfx20MSI****.txt – located in your %temp% directory; needed for all bugs during .NET Framework installation or uninstallation

Note: This log tends to be many megabytes in size, so please zip this file before attaching it to an email or a bug report

The following log files are relevant for bugs that occur during .NET Framework language pack setup:

  • dd_netfxlp20UI****.txt – located in your %temp% directory after .NET Framework language pack setup; needed for all bugs during .NET Framework language pack installation or uninstallation
  • dd_netfxlp20MSI****.txt – located in your %temp% directory; needed for all bugs during .NET Framework language pack installation or uninstallation

The following log file is relevant for bugs that occur during .NET Framework SDK setup:

  • dd_netfxsdk20UI****.txt – located in your %temp% directory after .NET Framework SDK setup; needed for all bugs during .NET Framework SDK installation or uninstallation
  • dd_netfxsdk20MSI****.txt – located in your %temp% directory; needed for all bugs during .NET Framework SDK installation or uninstallation

J# Redistributable Package Log Files

The following log files are relevant for bugs that occur during J# redistributable package setup:

  • dd_vjredist20UI****.txt – located in your %temp% directory after J# redistributable package language pack setup; needed for all bugs during J# redistributable package installation or uninstallation
  • dd_vjredist20MSI****.txt – located in your %temp% directory; needed for all bugs during J# redistributable package installation or uninstallation

Note: This log tends to be many megabytes in size, so please zip this file before attaching it to an email or a bug report

The following log files are relevant for bugs that occur during J# redistributable package language pack setup:

  • dd_vjredistlp20UI****.txt – located in your %temp% directory after J# redistributable package language pack setup; needed for all bugs during J# redistributable package language pack installation or uninstallation
  • dd_vjredistlp20MSI****.txt – located in your %temp% directory; needed for all bugs during J# redistributable package language pack installation or uninstallation
