Get ready teach checklist

Completed

The new term is going to start in a few weeks, and you're incorporating Microsoft Official Curriculum (MOC) into your class for the first time. Maybe you've taught this subject before and want a refresher, or maybe you've been teaching Microsoft Fundamentals and you're going to teach Advanced Role-Based content for the first time. Regardless, this module and checklist are for you.

Getting ready to teach checklist:

  1. Draft my syllabus

    • Download the most up-to-date version of the Microsoft Official Curriculum from the Microsoft Learning Download Center

    • Check out the Course Data sheet. This resource contains an outline that provides detailed information about the content included in the instructor-led course modules, including topic areas, interactive guides and videos

  2. Record my class in the MSLE portal

    • Go into the MSLE Portal to record your class information using the Course Intake Form or update your class details on the Courses tab in the left navigation
  3. Set up my lab seats:

    • Connect with the Authorized Lab Hosting provider to request the lab seats for your class

    • Ensure that you have set up the labs

    • Work through the labs yourself before you assign them or demo them in class

  4. Review MOC Virtual Educator Prep Sessions (VEPS)

    • MOC VEPS provides tips and tricks from Microsoft technical trainers on how to prepare your classes. You'll learn which labs to use and when, how to introduce topics, and other resources and materials that might help your students to be more successful on their exams.

    • Review the updated list of Training and Tools or through the training events tab on the MSLE portal.

  5. Engage with other educators in the MSLE Teams community

    • Find who else might be teaching the same content that you're teaching this term and talk about what you're doing in class. You can learn from what they might be doing or from the questions that their students are asking.

    • This community is important network and can help you feel supported and connected even beyond the term.

  6. Finalize my student certification plan

    • To take an exam, students will first need exam vouchers, or access to an institution’s certification license to sit the exams and use practice exams.

    • Communicate the plan to your students through your syllabus and ensure that everyone is set up for success.

  7. Finalize syllabus, set expectations, and set up Learning Management System (LMS)

    • Make sure your course page is fully set up in your LMS. Revisit the Microsoft Learn for Educators course planning module for more information on how to set up your LMS.

    • Ensure that information is clearly communicated in the syllabus.

    • Make sure that your course page has the latest resources from Microsoft Learn, GitHub, and others that you want your students to access for the course.

    • Send students an email that welcomes them to class, let them know about the exam they'll be taking, and that they can create their Azure for Students account to access $100 Azure credits. No payment is necessary. These credits are valid for 12 months of free Azure services.

    • You'll receive an email about 14 days before your course starts that contains an email template with a link to a pre-survey that has been created specifically for your students. About 14 days before your class ends, you'll receive another email template to send to your students with a post-survey link. The survey results will enable you to get insights into your students’ experiences, get feedback, and provide them with the best tools for the course.
