Select Build Method (Cube Wizard) (SSAS)
Use the Select Build Method page to choose the type of cube to create.
Options
- Build the cube using a data source
Select to create a cube with a data source. Selecting this option makes the Auto build option available.
Auto build
Select to use the auto build technology. The auto build technology makes recommendations during the design process based on the database structure and user input. The auto build technology uses the metadata of a data source, such as column names, relationships, and constraints, to recommend fact tables, dimension tables, and the resulting dimensions and measure groups for a cube. Clear this option to create a cube manually, without suggestions from the auto build technology.The following table describes the auto build values and their purpose. These values determine the form of the suggested hierarchies.
Value Description Create attributes and hierarchies
Select to have the wizard create an attribute for most columns in the dimension tables and try to build hierarchies that have multiple levels.
Create attributes
Select to have the wizard create an attribute for most columns in the dimension tables.
- Build the cube without using a data source
Select to create the cube without an existing data source. Dimensions and measures will be created manually, without suggestions from the auto build technology. Selecting this option will make the Use a cube template option available.
- Use a cube template
Select to create a cube based on an existing template. Templates provide a complete set of dimension and measure group definitions that are oriented toward a specific business purpose.
