Securing the Windows Operating System for Analysis Services
The second point of access to the data that is stored in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services (SSAS), after access to the physical computer, is the Microsoft Windows operating system. An incorrectly secured operating system can jeopardize the security of an instance of Analysis Services.
The following topics discuss how to help secure the Windows operating system:
- Restricting Interactive Logon Access
- Restricting Network Access
- Disabling Unneeded Services
- Specifying and Restricting Ports
- Granting Local Administrative Rights
These topics assume that Analysis Services is installed on a member server in a domain, instead of on a domain controller or on a stand-alone computer. Installing Analysis Services on a domain controller is not recommended for performance and security reasons. For more information about how to help secure the Windows operating system, see the Microsoft Security Web site.
