WSUS 3.0: Developer's Blog... We're not done yet, but it's off to a good start...

Developers do the grunt work, then let the PMs get all the glory with fancy well-formatted announcements. Ah well.  Expect something fancier soon, but in the meantime check out: https://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/wus/default.mspx

I've read statistics that less than 60% of people make back-ups with any regularity.  Given WSUS is in a mission critical (security) role in our users' organizations, hopefully none of you fit into that bucket.  My personal request is that you make a back-up of a WSUS 2.0 SP1 database, put it on a test machine, then try out the beta.  Operative word being a back-up.  Not your live production machines.

    Will I be able to upgrade my current WSUS Servers? -- or will I need to build another WSUS in parallel then switch over? (like your newest version of MOM)

    You can, but remember that this beta is for evaluation and is not supported for production deployment.  This is why I'm recommending you make a back-up of your existing WSUS servers, and use that back-up for evaluation.

    There is also no upgrade from this beta to the release candidates. -- matthew
