A Note regarding KB935509
WSUS Admins, Happy New Year!!
I wanted to provide some guidance on the prerequisite update (KB935509)for Windows Vista Service Pack 1 because it’s a little different than the typical content we release. You may have read about on the Windows Vista team blog.
This update, which will be released on Tuesday, is a prerequisite for installing Windows Vista Service Pack 1 on Windows Vista Ultimate and Enterprise editions. Even if you don't plan on installing the service pack for awhile, you may still want to test and deploy this update. Not only does it make improvements to the boot loader, but it's also required prior to installing the two upcoming prerequisites for SP1. The two upcoming prerequisites will have an updated installer technology which will increase performance and reduce failures for the installation of updates, which are great improvements to make even if you choose to wait to deploy SP1.
Deploying this update and one of the upcoming prerequisites will also eliminate one reboot once you are ready to deploy SP1, which will be available in the first quarter of 2008. In fact, we're distributing the update during this Tuesday's release in an effort to reduce customer pain associated with multiple reboots.
To learn more about this specific update, see KB article number KB935509 .

One more thing, remember that you can find information on the content released through Windows Update and Microsoft Update from the following site: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/wsus/default.aspx
Thank you!

One of the three prerequisites for the Vista SP1 upgrade is available now. According to the Vista team blog, KB935509, the first of these, "modifies the boot loader to enable successful install or uninstall of the service pack if the PC uses BitLockerAnonymous

Windows Update installed this KB935509 on my Home Premium, right now. Why? Is it not for Ultimate and Business only?Anonymous

Dr. Leonard, you get WSUS the same way everybody else does, http://www.google.ca/search?q=wsus which leads you to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/wsus/bb466193.aspx Note that a Windows 2003 (or 2008 beta) server is required.Anonymous

Updates fails to install, have tried it several times by now. As of this morning my PC would not start (w Vista 32b Ultimate). At a certain stage (prior welcome message) it reboots. Sometimes it does not, but monitor would get no signal. Event log shows that Windows is not able to set Bitlocker status to default, etc. What can I do?Anonymous

Update KB935509 failed to install, twice, on 2 machines. Both run Ultimate 64 on Core 2 Duo. One is a desktop w/o TPM chip, and the other is a Thinkpad with a TPM. I see this was a problem with the RC1 as others have posted comments about it. I did not install the RC1 and will wait for SP1 but if this is a prerequisite, then this install issue must be fixed by MS. I use virtual machines (Vista's) on both machines and have a large compliment of applications, MS, Adobe, Nero, Logitech etc on both. I run dual displays on both machines and both have the FireGL V5200. Help please.Anonymous

Have Vista 32 Ultimate on ThinkPad T61 which dual boots Linux Fedora 8. All previous Windows updated installed OK, but starting with KB935509 no Windows Updates are installing. Windows update says that it is downloading the updates and I get a message that they have been installed. However on reboot, a review of the update history shows the updates failed. Subsequent Windows Updates show the 7 failed updates available. The first attempt at installing Windows Vista update KB935509 encountered error code: 80010108 subsequent attempts at installing KB935509 encountered error code: 80004005 Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated. Could this be an incompatibility between "Windows" and "Linux" in a dual booted environment? If so, Windows will be dropped by me.Anonymous

Is this some "sneaky" way to force people to uninstall their choice of bootloaders and other operating systems. Sounds like the antitrust investigation needs to be started up again!Anonymous
