Session Description: This presentation starts by defining what a smart client is and delves into the implications and opportunities for Smart Clients application development. This session is demo heavy and focuses on Windows Forms, Compact Framework, InfoPath and Visual Studio Tools for Office, deployment and updating. It delves into tips, tricks, positives, negatives when designing smart client applications. In addition to the huge RAD benefits the latest Microsoft technologies encompasses deployment and security features that make Smart Clients a very appealing platform for the developer and architect. For the last few years, Smart Client applications like Windows applications have not even been considered in the enterprise because of challenges of deployment and maintenance. Now because deploying a Smart Client safely can be as simple as posting an .exe to a Web page, building smart client applications with rich GUI’s is an architectural decision point that must be considered in the application design phase of every project. This session will entice you to speculate on the types of Smart Clients that are starting to surface now and in the future.
