Windows Embedded Compact 7 announced and public CTP available
The next version of Windows Embedded CE has just been announced at Computex in Taipei today. Windows Embedded Compact 7 CTP is available for download on the Connect Website (See edit below for connection instructions).

I am really excited about this release as it brings great technologies that will allow Specialized Devices manufacturers to compete with existing tablets and slates. Providing an enhanced support for Silverlight-like UX (using Silverlight for Windows Embedded runtime and tools) along with connectivity and enterprise features such as Exchange 2010 AirSync, PDF and office viewers, or Device Stage support, Windows Embedded Compact 7 allows manufacturers to benefit from already implemented features, giving them the opportunity to concentrate on innovating. While I look forward to see what they will come with, I am amazed by what they could already put together is so little time. look at this EEE Pad EP101TC. Obviously this is really early prototype but given the fact that Compact 7 is not even RTMed yet, I think this is really promising.
And here are some snippets of some of the demos that have been developed, along with the consumer shell that is provided as a sample in the toolkit and the new IE7 browser, everything shaped with Silverlight for Windows Embedded:

As the title states, this session is about demos only, no slides. If you want to learn about the latest technologies for Embedded such as Microsoft Silverlight for Windows Embedded, Windows Embedded Standard 7 (componentized version of Windows 7), the latest Microsoft Auto, and see all of these running on actual hardware, if you want to learn how to build your own media center or any kind of embedded device, this session is for you! Not only will you get demonstrations of the latest releases, but you will also get to see the future products such as the next release of Windows Embedded in real demos. Why would you miss this?

Can't download the public CTP. There is no way 'Apply Now' button in connect.microsoft.com/windowsembeddedce so I can't join that connection.Anonymous

Windows Embedded Compact 7 is not yet available in the Microsoft Connect Library and the download link at connect.microsoft.com/windowsembeddedce leads to a "Page Not Found" error,Anonymous

@Simon: Yes, you can definitively run Compact 7 on a Virtual machine. Actually there is a BSP for Virtual PC provided in the tools. Bear in mind that you don't "Install" Windows Embedded Compact, you use Platform Builder which is a plug-in to Visual Studio, to build the OS (based on a selection of ocmponents, drivers, apps, you need and then deploy it to a target, Virtual PC being one of the potential targets. -OlivierAnonymous

I was signed in with my LiveID. Tried it once more with no luck. I don't see any products on Connect at all. Even when I'm trying to clink on "61Products currently accepting bugs (browse)" - I'm getting 0 (zero) products as result. Do you know with whom I may contact regarding this issue?Anonymous
