I am really excited about this release as it brings great technologies that will allow Specialized Devices manufacturers to compete with existing tablets and slates. Providing an enhanced support for Silverlight-like UX (using Silverlight for Windows Embedded runtime and tools) along with connectivity and enterprise features such as Exchange 2010 AirSync, PDF and office viewers, or Device Stage support, Windows Embedded Compact 7 allows manufacturers to benefit from already implemented features, giving them the opportunity to concentrate on innovating. While I look forward to see what they will come with, I am amazed by what they could already put together is so little time. look at this EEE Pad EP101TC. Obviously this is really early prototype but given the fact that Compact 7 is not even RTMed yet, I think this is really promising.

And here are some snippets of some of the demos that have been developed, along with the consumer shell that is provided as a sample in the toolkit and the new IE7 browser, everything shaped with Silverlight for Windows Embedded:

I am working on Windows Embedded Compact 7 demos for TechEd North America next week, so if you want to see how this looks like, join me for my sessions:

WEM307 | Windows Embedded Compact: New Tools and Developer Story

Can't download the public CTP. There is no way 'Apply Now' button in connect.microsoft.com/windowsembeddedce so I can't join that connection.

Hi, Can Windows Embedded Compact 7 be installed on something like Windows Virtual PC for testing basic development stuff?

@Simon: Yes, you can definitively run Compact 7 on a Virtual machine. Actually there is a BSP for Virtual PC provided in the tools. Bear in mind that you don't "Install" Windows Embedded Compact, you use Platform Builder which is a plug-in to Visual Studio, to build the OS (based on a selection of ocmponents, drivers, apps, you need and then deploy it to a target, Virtual PC being one of the potential targets. -Olivier

I was signed in with my LiveID. Tried it once more with no luck. I don't see any products on Connect at all. Even when I'm trying to clink on "61Products currently accepting bugs (browse)" - I'm getting 0 (zero) products as result. Do you know with whom I may contact regarding this issue?
