Problem adding a virtual machine in Virtual Server 2005

If you try to remove a virtual machine from your master list and then attempt to re-add it, you will probably get this error:

"The virtual machine could not be added. The virtual machine configuration could not be added. A configuration with this name already exists."

If that happens, navigate to $\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Virtual Server\Virtual Machines\ and delete the VMC file you were trying to re-add. Now try adding the virtual machine again and it should work.

Now if anyone knows why Virtual Server places a copy of all added VMC files in the above directory, please let me know!

Hey Mohammed, I had the same issue using the Windows VISTA. So, the path to delete the shortcuts is: C:ProgramDataMicrosoftVirtual ServerVirtual Machines Works fine! Regards,

A better way of expressing this location, which works both before and after vista is: "%allusersprofile%MicrosoftVirtual ServerVirtual Machines"

Hello This is a problem that I have with Virtual Server 2005 R2:

  • I want to CREATE a new Virtual network so I open the “New Virtual Network” Network Properties
  • from the Network adapter on physical computer drop down, I want to select one of the virtual networks that are set there. However anytime I click on my selection, the drop down does not take it. The drop down still selects the default None (Guest Only) selection. What is going on ? Thank you
