The role of virtualization on CRM vNext development

I'm wiping out my machines and getting them ready to install W2K8 and Hyper-V. The reason? On the CRM product Team, pretty much like every other team at Microsoft, we are making extensive use of virtualization technologies for our development cycle; all of our Devs and Testers will be using VMs every day.

As a Program Manager I could find alternative ways of “getting my hands dirty” with the product but I’m a fan of feeling the pain as much as possible so I regularly do manual installs of our latest builds and keep an eye on multiple sections of the product, not just my areas.. That requires me to rebuild machines every other day; thankfully our build team has setup some pretty nifty tools for us to take advantage of virtualization that will make the process of setting up a “base” VM from scratch with the latest CRM build a breeze.

Since I regularly use my laptop (without network access) as the machine that runs VPCs (for presentations and so on) I had to let Vista go and install W2K8…J

Nope I cannot go into the details on any of the above but I thought worthy to mention that Microsoft is taking virtualization pretty serious in all fronts.
