Domino 8 Beta

I like to try and keep up with developments with the other products and had a little smile when I saw these two new features pop up in the Domino 8 Beta.

Firstly they have included "message recall" and secondly they have included "address type-ahead" The first feature is self explanatory and the second is something we call autocomplete.

It looks like this in Domino 8 Beta

They are brilliant features but the reason that it made me grin was that we have had both these functions in Exchange/Outlook since 2002. If you want really cutting edge features such as accessing your mailbox using voice then you need to be looking at Exchange 2007 Server.

Indeed, the type-ahead address isn't just pulling stuff from the directory. Out of the hundreds of people called Smith in my company when I type 'smi' it goes straight to the Smith that I converse with most. And it also suggests names I've swapped e-mails with recently, even if I didn't save the address in my address book. What isn't showing in that screenshot is that the Sametime status is also shown when doing type-ahead addressing. Having a p*ssing contest about features is a waste of time. Outlook doesn't have anything like the Activities integration in Notes 8, and I'm sure Outlook has a few things that Notes doesn't. Sure, Exchange has some voice activated stuff... were the developers working on that when they could have been getting the active / active clustering working?
