ZBB
Perhaps you've seen Shaykat and Eric talk about ZBB. Now it's my turn.
I'm the dev lead for the team that create the C# specific parts of the Editor. I'm also responsible for how the PU (Product Unit) gets to ZBB. That includes the C# Compiler & Debugger.
So I spend a lot of type running queries against the bug database. Pushing the resutls through Excel's pivot tables, and generating pretty charts. I'm trying to track our progress, understand when we'll hit ZBB, identify sources of risk, and propose ways to mitigate those risks.
It has little to do with coding practices or feature design. It's all about accounting.
It also generates a lot of stress, and a a lot of email. Yesterday I recieved over 700 emails. Every time I stepped away to talk to someone, my inbox would fill up. I'd be in the middle of responding to one important message, and an even more important message would show up.
Because I also manage the automated checkin system we all rely on, I was up until the wee hours making sure that checkins were going through.
I spent the morning with my son, since I hadn't seen him much recently. I fried up eggs + garlic + onions + salt + pepper. He ate it with buttered whole wheat bread. It was just the thing we both needed before I took of for another day of bug counting.
Almost there...
