IE Address bar gets the green light

There's been quite a bit written about IE7 and the red address bar that warns users of a suspicious or known-phishing website.  However, it was only on Friday that the functionality was turned on to display a new form of user security awareness.  Yes, my friends, I'm talking about the green address bar!

Websites that use a EV SSL (Extended Validation Certificate), the distribution and use of which are more closely controlled, will have the benefit of showing up "green" in the address bar.  To obtain an EV certificate the applicant must go through a common vetting procedure (like a credit check) to ensure that people who should not be getting one don't.

CNET have got a pretty good article on the whole thing, and it seems Firefox 3 will be implementing it too, but they haven't decided how they will alert the user (note to Mozilla - address bar works well but IE7 already does it that way) ;-).

Hi Andrew Why are you using IE to open stuff on a DVD/CD? What disc are you talking about - DVD/CD?  I've not had any problems accessing media off dvd or cd... Cheers James

The green bar should be red because it makes every folder on a CD/DVD very slow to browse and there is no way that I know it cannot be turned off. Vista is astalavista baby because its too slow for accessing small or large photos or videos on a disc. Microsoft, do yourself a favour and stick to it, XP is better and should be used for the next 3 to 5 years till you know how to program and what people want, and that is speed, not just security!
