Video downloads (for UK developer launch)

I'm going out on a limb....which I tend to do from time to time....but I have a proposal for readers of this blog who are interested in getting hold of the download versions of the technical sessions from the developer launch event.

We have a new set of links and they seem to work fine, but what I'd like to do is share them with you folks in this blog entry before we post them on the main site, as a sort of trial ahead of time for people who are eager to get their hands on them, but are tolerant of potential issues.

So....feel free to download them if you want to, but be aware that this is kind of "beta" :-) So if the experience isn't fantastic bear that in mind - but let me know.

I realise this is all a little unorthodox, but that's kind of in my nature. If you're the kind of person who is likely to get distressed if the experience isn't good then I suggest waiting until we post them on the official website, which hopefully should be next week.

One other thing to bear in mind before you dive in: These are zip files, not because we needed to zip them particularly but because it forces a download rather than "buffered stream".

Anyhow, feel free to give these a try. They're still big files so if you have a slow connection it will take quite a while to download them. Let me know how you get on.

Well I'm all for unorthodox if it get the job done... That's worked fine for me (Firefox 2.0 + DownloadThemAll makes it a distress-free experience!) all at good speeds. I've scanned through them and haven't had any problems with corruptions - I can't check Vista_dotnet_framework_500kbps.wmv because it's the only one that won't support seek/fastforward. I'll let you know if it drops out when I watch it through. Cheers K :-)

All the videos downloaded really well with Download Accelerator Plus (DAP). They all started out at about 4 MB/s and then fell to a constant 3 MB/s. Without, DAP, downloads started at 2 MB/s and then fell to 1.3 MB/s. The only potentially problematic video was the keynote that started out at 2 MB/s and fell to an apparently peaked download speed of 1.3 MB/s.

Thanks both. Generally I think we're looking good, I'll ask to get these put on the main site tomorrow.

Just wanted to say THANKS for doing this :) I guess the original servers are still playing up! I've grabbed the main ones I wanted but may as well get the rest - you never know when you want to again refer to something seen previously!

Yes, before all the links are put on the main site, I think there is a problem with the "Advances in the .NET Framework 3" (Vista_dotnet_framework_500kbps.wmv) one... It appears to be compressed far too much for video (zip size is an indicator - it's out of kilter with the others) and as Killian says, won't seek - another indication - so I think that one needs re-zipping :)
