Weekly Topic: Excel

Did you know that there are over 250 Excel Reports that come with Microsoft Dynamics GP? We added the first reports on GP 10.0, added more in GP2010 and even more in GP2013.

These Excel reports are refreshable. You can deploy them locally, to a network share, to SharePoint, or Office 365. There is an easy wizard that helps you deploy the excel report and the data connection.

You can modify the Excel report, adding charts, calculations, and other formatting (really anything Excel allows). When you refresh it keeps the changes you've made and just updates the data.

If you are exporting from SmartLists and creating Excel Dashboards over and over, you don't have to anymore.

To deploy the reports you go to: Microsoft Dynamics GP (top dropdown) > Tools>System>Setup>Reporting Tools Setup

When I first heard of Excel reports, it sounded like an exciting feature.  But, the inability to enter parameters is severely limiting.  Yes, we export a lot of SmartLists from GP.  But, this is after the list has been filtered down to the relevant data.

Excel Report Builder allows you to do the calculations so you may want to look at that.  Great comment, thank you.
