Exchange 2003 SP1 Releases!

This morning I see that the bits for Exchange 2003 SP1 have hit the web (download here). This is excellent news, as SP1 has lots of great new features you want (this list taken from the announcement page, linked above):

  • Enhanced security
  • Updated deployment tools to make Exchange Server 5.5 upgrades and site consolidation even easier
  • New language support for Outlook Mobile Access and Outlook Web Access spelling checkers
  • Enhancements to the Outlook Mobile Access user interface that include out-of-office modification, a larger text entry field, search folder support, and improved menu navigation
  • Co-existence and migration support in a new Active Directory Connector and IBM Lotus Notes R6 Connector
  • Updates and improvements based on your feedback

Plus, there's a handful of cool, new “Web Release“ tools available (Note: this is not an exhaustive list):

And, of course, one that lots of folks have been waiting for -- the new Intelligent Message Filter (IMF). You can also get the new MOM management pack for IMF. See more about IMF here, and in particular, read the IMF Deployment Guide.

Also, several “technical library guides” have been added or updated for SP1:

Whew... That's a lot of links. Enjoy!

Evan, Great Blog! I was wondering if you had any more info or opinion on SP1 and "Co-existence and migration support in a new Active Directory Connector and IBM Lotus Notes R6 Connector" feature. In particular the Lotus Notes connector. I have not ben able to find much on this. Thanks.

Eric - Thanks for the comment! I can tell you that Lotus Notes R6 is now a tested client for the Lotus Notes connector in Exchange 2003 SP1. I'm not sure if the KB articles to this effect have caught up with the release yet. Is that what you're getting at?

Evan -Thanks for the response, sorry for not getting back to you sooner. That info helps, I have not yet seen a KB article about SP1 and Lotus migrations. I have a large client who was going to migrate from Lotus Notes to Exchange 2000. For business reasons it was put on hold for the past several months. We are getting ready to restart the process, but are going to rebuild their Win2KExchange2K servers as Win2003Exchange2003. We are evaluating SP1 and will deploy it in due process ( few weeks ), but I am just gathering info on improved features as we re-develop our migration plan for this summer. Thanks again.

What is the easiest way to update the users profiles after migrating from 5.5 to 2003?
