Released! The Smart Client Software Factory

What a journey! Releasing the first software factory has been an incredible learning experience. Of course there are many things we could do better, but overall I'm very happy with the outcome. Of course the final word is yours...

As engineers we certainly do like cool stuff, but all of us want to make useful stuff as well. It could be cooler than Greenland, but if nobody uses it....well, it's kind of disappointing. So when I read a statement like this, our team feels really good:

"…the use of SCBAT (SC-SF) lowered my team's UI dev costs 5 to 1. I would go as far as saying this is one of the 5 most important deliverables shipping out of MSFT these days…"

I'd like to thank everybody in the community that contributed to this project. We had great input and participation. This was the first project where we implemented the "weekly drops" aiming at a higher transparency in our development process, now a practice in most patterns & practices projects.

Are we done? not really. Lots of exciting stuff is coming along and we will start sharing our planning with you as soon as we can.

Specifically for this factory, the 3 top priority things we are working on are:

  • A chapter for ClickOnce deployment
  • Hands-On-Labs for Developers & Architects (those who attended TechEd saw a preview of part of these)
  • The VB.NET version of the Guidance Packages

Also, most of the team is also spending quite a significant amount of time answering questions in our community site. If you are experiencing any issue, post your question! There are many expert eyes reading and answering!

And as usual, if there's any concern, question, critic, let us know. If it is broken, we’ll fix it.

If you love our deliverable, let us know too! Share your success with us, and help us convince our management to continue to fund our project proposals J.
