Windows Update goes live for Windows Embedded Standard 7!
On Tuesday March 9th, 2010, Windows Update will go live for Windows Embedded Standard 7. With these changes, you will see content delivered that is specifically targeted to Windows Embedded Standard 7. To demonstrate Windows Update for Windows Embedded Standard, we have published 2 test updates. Both test updates are intended to demonstrate the functionality of Windows Update. These updates are non-operational changes to the actual OS runtime.
Test Update 1 will be presented as an Important Update, depending on how your device is configured; this update will come down automatically and will be installed.
Test Update 2 will be presented as an Optional Update, this update will require user input to be installed onto the system.
Windows Update is a Feature Package available in the Windows Embedded Standard Toolkit, to enable Windows Update UI, select the Windows Update User Interface package found in ICE and IBW.
During the Windows Out of Box Experience (OOBE), a screen comes up for Protect My PC. On this screen if you select the first or second box, Windows Update will be enabled and updates will automatically be downloaded and installed on the device. “Use recommended settings” will install important and recommended updates. “Install important updates only” will download and install updates that are published as important updates.
Security updates are marked as Important; For Windows Embedded Standard 7, only Security Updates will be published onto Windows Update.
Please try out Windows Update, your feedback is appreciated!
