Active Directory Management Gateway Service (Active Directory Web Service for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008)

Brief Description

The Active Directory® Management Gateway Service enables administrators to manage Active Directory Domain Services and Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS) or Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) using Active Directory module for Windows PowerShell and the Active Directory Administrative Center.

Overview

The Active Directory® Management Gateway Service provides a Web service interface to Active Directory domains and instances of Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS) or Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) that are running on the same server as the Active Directory Management Gateway Service.
You can download and install the Active Directory Management Gateway Service on servers and domain controllers running the following operating systems:

  1. Windows Server® 2003 R2 with Service Pack 2 (SP2)
  2. Windows Server 2003 SP2
  3. Windows Server 2008
  4. Windows Server 2008 SP2

Note:    You can install the Active Directory Management Gateway Service on writable domain controllers as well as Read-only domain controllers that are running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 SP2.
After it is installed on any of these operating systems, the Active Directory Management Gateway Service runs as the Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory Web Services (ADWS) service and provides the same functionality. For more information about ADWS, see What's New in AD DS: Active Directory Web Services (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=152772).
Note:    The Active Directory Management Gateway Service does not support instances of the Active Directory Database Mounting Tool running on Windows Server 2008–based servers.
The Active Directory Management Gateway Service enables administrators to use the Active Directory module for Windows PowerShell and the Active Directory Administrative Center running on Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 to access or manage directory service instances that are running on Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2003 operating systems in the previous list.
Note:    Installing the Active Directory Management Gateway Service on your Windows Server 2008–based or Windows Server 2003–based servers does not make it possible for you to install the Active Directory module or the Active Directory Administrative Center (which is available only on Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 operating systems) on these servers.
If the Active Directory Management Gateway Service on your Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2003 server is stopped or disabled, client applications, such as the Active Directory module or the Active Directory Administrative Center will not be able to access or manage any directory service instances that are running on this server.

Microsoft Visual Basic Power Packs 10.0

Brief Description

Microsoft Visual Basic Power Packs 10.0 has same feature as Power Packs 3.0, but contains some bug fixes.

Overview

The DataRepeater control allows you to display rows of data in a scrollable container providing more flexibility and customization than standard grid controls.
The Line and Shape controls are a set of three controls that enable you to draw lines, ovals, and rectangles on forms and containers at design time making it much easier to enhance the look of your user interface. These shape controls also provide events such as click and double-click allowing developers to respond and interact with end users.
The Printer Compatibility Library allows projects that used the Printer and Printers Collection in Visual Basic 6.0 to be upgraded without having to re-write your printing logic. By simply adding a reference to the library, declaring a Printer and making a few minor syntax changes, your project will be able to print using the Printers collection and Printer object as it did in Visual Basic 6.0. This version adds a new Write method to the Printer object which allows you to print text without a forced carriage return similar to the semicolon syntax used by Print method in Visual Basic 6.0.
The PrintForm component is designed to bring back the ability to easily print a Windows Form. With this new PrintForm component you can layout the Windows Form exactly as you want it and allow your users to print the form as a quick report.

Microsoft® SQL Server® StreamInsight CTP2

Brief Description

Microsoft® SQL Server® StreamInsight is Microsoft’s new Complex Event Processing technology to help businesses derive better insights by correlating event streams from multiple sources with near-zero latency.

Overview

Microsoft® SQL Server® StreamInsight is a platform for the continuous and incremental processing of unending sequences of events (event streams) from multiple sources with near-zero latency. These requirements, shared by vertical markets such as manufacturing, oil and gas, utilities, financial services, health care, web analytics, and IT and data center monitoring, make traditional store and query techniques impractical for timely and relevant processing of data.
StreamInsight allows software developers to create innovative solutions in the domain of Complex Event Processing that satisfy these needs. It allows to monitor, mine, and develop insights from continuous unbounded data streams and correlate constantly changing events with rich payloads in near real time. Industry specific solution developers (ISVs) and developers of custom applications have the opportunity to innovate on and utilize proven, flexible, and familiar Microsoft technology and rely on existing development skills when using the StreamInsight platform.
Some of the key feature areas are:

  • Derive meaningful and relevant information from data/events streams through complex patterns. These patterns can be defined using a declarative query paradigm based on well-defined streaming semantics with LINQ as query language.
  • For the development of applications, adapters, and analytics, the user can rely on well-established and powerful development frameworks and tools such as .NET, LINQ, and Microsoft Visual Studio.
  • The platform integrates with various data sources and sinks through input and output adapters. The framework to build domain-specific adapters utilizes a .NET API to make adoption of the platform easy. Independence between adapters and queries facilitates seamless integration of real-time and historical analysis.
  • The platform architecture supports a variety of deployment options, from scenarios with a low-footprint embedded option to high-end server deployments.
  • A rich set of manageability features such as a management interface, a diagnostic interface and a debugging tool are provided as part of the platform.

The Microsoft® SQL Server® StreamInsight CTP2 has two different methods to complete the installation process:

  • Attended Installation – an interactive user interface will guide you through the set-up process and obtain all of the information and consent required to complete the installation. This includes the displaying, acknowledgement, and archiving of the applicable SQL Server license terms.
  • Un-attend Installation – this is a DOS command line set-up process that does not have an interactive user interface to guide you through the set-up process. In this case, you will be required to enter a parameter during installation that indicates your acceptance of the license terms.
Here is the copy of the Microsoft® SQL Server® StreamInsight license terms for your review.

Real-time Computational Fluid Dynamics for Flight Simulation

Brief Description

A service oriented architecture is described that enables computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to run alongside a human-in-the-loop flight simulator; thereby informing the behavior of a simulated aircraft whilst it is being piloted.

Overview

The modeling of aerodynamic effects in real-time flight simulators is a continuously evolving field. It is becoming increasingly relevant for flight simulators to more accurately describe the local unsteady environmental flow around the vehicle, in a time-accurate way for applications such as wake vortex and helicopter-ship airwake interaction scenarios. This is important from both development and training perspectives. This is an extremely challenging problem that is being tackled using a variety of techniques.

Microsoft Anti-Cross Site Scripting Library V3.1

Brief Description

AntiXSS 3.1 helps you to protect your current applications from cross-site scripting attacks, at the same time helping you to protect your legacy application with its Security Runtime Engine

Overview

The Microsoft Anti-Cross Site Scripting Library V3.1 (Anti-XSS V3.1) is an encoding library designed to help developers protect their ASP.NET web-based applications from XSS attacks. It differs from most encoding libraries in that it uses the white-listing technique -- sometimes referred to as the principle of inclusions -- to provide protection against XSS attacks. This approach works by first defining a valid or allowable set of characters, and encodes anything outside this set (invalid characters or potential attacks). The white-listing approach provides several advantages over other encoding schemes. New features in this version of the Microsoft Anti-Cross Site Scripting Library include: - An expanded white list that supports more languages - Performance improvements - Performance data sheets (in the online help) - Support for Shift_JIS encoding for mobile browsers - A sample application - Security Runtime Engine (SRE) HTTP module - HTML Sanitization methods to strip dangerous HTML scripts

Security Features in Microsoft Online Services

Brief Description

The Business Productivity Online Suite is a set of subscription-based enterprise software services hosted by Microsoft and sold with partners. The services operate within a complete ecosystem of features and capabilities designed to meet and in many cases to exceed the security and availability goals that you have for your business applications.

Overview

Service security must be proactively designed in to all aspects of the online experience, from the software itself to the supporting infrastructure, from the day-to-day best practices for your own information workers to the buildings housing the data centers. The security architecture for the Business Productivity Online Suite embodies the key principles of the company’s Trustworthy Computing Initiative: security created by design, by default, and by deployment. Developed for global enterprises, Microsoft’s multi-faceted security program applies a common set of security policies to manage risk and mitigate threats to customer data. Microsoft seeks to improve security by working to standardize the way it tests, implements, and monitor policies for all of its customers. In turn, each Business Productivity Online Suite customer benefits from Microsoft’s experience with the security concerns of customers all over the world — and from the practices Microsoft applies to address them.

The Effectiveness of a PC-Bases C-130 Crew Resource Management Aircrew Training Device

Brief Description

Inadequate crew resource management (CRM) behaviors are still cited as causal factors in most military and commercial aircraft mishaps despite mandatory CRM training in virtually all aviator training programs, suggesting a need to explore alternative approaches.

Overview

Inadequate crew resource management (CRM) behaviors are still cited as causal factors in most military and commercial aircraft mishaps despite mandatory CRM training in virtually all aviator training programs, suggesting a need to explore alternative approaches. A low-cost, PC-based simulator was designed to elicit the communication and crew coordination behaviors associated with instrument and visual airdrop missions. These targeted behaviors were frequently addressed in instructor comments from earlier C-130 student training records, especially for navigators and copilots. The effectiveness of instruction using this device was evaluated. Treatment group students received a four hour training profile before their first airdrop flight while control group students did not. Multiple measures of effectiveness were tracked. Instructors and students rated training effectiveness using 5-point Likert scales. Ratings from both groups were significantly greater than “3” (neutral) for task management, communication, and crew coordination. In addition, instructors reported that the experience was a good use of instructor and student time. Detailed CRM proficiency data were collected during the first subsequent airdrop flight. Positive transfer of training was substantiated by a multivariate analysis of variance. CRM performance ratings during this flight were significantly higher for treatment group students than their for control group peers. Higher performance grades in training records were also observed for treatment group students in all CRM skill areas through subsequent flights, with fewer sorties to criterion for communication, crew coordination, task management, and decision making for both navigators and copilots.
