Part of the first graduating class of the Microsoft Accelerator for Windows Azure, MediSafe Project has vital, Big Data implications for pharmaceutical companies. From anonymous demographics, geolocation and patient behaviors to physician trends and other market aspects, MediSafe Project’s broad analytics can help pharmaceutical companies better understand how people receive and take their medication.

We sat down with the CEO of MediSafe Project, Omri Shror, to figure out what they were trying to do with mobile and health. We found out that the project was launched after his father's own double-dosing of insulin, which had terrible consequences for the family. Here's a video that explains the whole thing.

BizSpark: Tell us who you are and your role in the company:

MediSafe: I happen to be the CEO.

BizSpark: What is your company’s mission?

MediSafe: Promote health using mobile technology. “Help families get healthier, together”

BizSpark: In 140 characters or less, tell us what your company does:

MediSafe:  MediSafe Project is the first mobile health app not only reminding users when it’s time to take their medication, but also using families’, friends’ and caretakers’ intervention instincts by sending them alerts when a loved one misses a dose.

BizSpark: Tell us about your Azure based solution.

MediSafe: The app database and services sit on Azure: MongoDB, MySQL, J2EE.

BizSpark: How is Azure implemented in your solution?

MediSafe: Hard core implementation. 

BizSpark: How did you get excited about Azure?

MediSafe: It works great. Much better than what we have anticipated.

BizSpark: What were the Azure features that prompted you to decide to build on Azure?

MediSafe: We were chosen for the Azure accelerator, only then we have discovered the power of Azure.

BizSpark: What advice do you have for companies that are thinking about building in the cloud?

MediSafe: Just do it! It’s much better than what you can do, as a startup, without the cloud.

BizSpark: What is the one thing that you would like readers to take away about your Azure app?

MediSafe: We were astonished by the ability of the new Azure to work with the open sourced solutions we use.
