Renew DNS Client Registration

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

You can use the ipconfig /registerdns command to initiate dynamic registration manually for the Domain Name System (DNS) names and IP addresses that are configured at a computer. This option can assist in troubleshooting a failed DNS name registration or in resolving a dynamic update problem between a client and a DNS server, without restarting the client.

The ipconfig /registerdns command refreshes all Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) address leases, and it registers all related DNS names that the client computer configures and uses.

Membership in Administrators, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at Local and Domain Default Groups (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477).
