Installing a New Domain Tree

Applies To: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2

Use the following procedures as necessary to install a new domain tree. These procedures apply to Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2:

To avoid application compatibility problems, verify that the domain naming master operations master role is hosted on a domain controller that runs either Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2008 R2 before you begin. For more information, see Known Issues for Installing and Removing AD DS.

• If you are installing the first Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controller in the forest, run the adprep /forestprep command. For more information, see Prepare a Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 Forest Schema for a Domain Controller That Runs Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

• Install a new domain tree, using one of the following methods:

  • Installing a New Windows Server 2008 Domain Tree by Using the Graphical User Interface (GUI)

  • Installing a New Windows Server 2008 Domain Tree by Using the Command Line

  • Installing a New Windows Server 2008 Domain Tree by Using an Answer File
