Initiate a resource failure

To initiate a resource failure

Open Cluster Administrator.
In the console tree, click the Groups folder, and then click the group that contains the resource to fail.
In the details pane, click the resource you want.
On the File menu, click Initiate Failure.

Notes

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.
To open Cluster Administrator, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Cluster Administrator.
When a resource fails, it automatically restarts if a restart policy is defined for it.
If a resource fails repeatedly, the entire group to which the resource belongs can fail over, depending on the failover policy defined for the group.
This command is useful for testing the restart and failover policies of the resource and group.
