Notes

  • You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group (or you must have been delegated the proper authority) to complete the first several steps of this procedure, in which you install the files for East Asian languages. After those files are installed and you restart your computer, the remaining steps do not require you to have administrative credentials. Therefore, as a security best practice, consider performing the final steps as a user without administrative credentials.

  • To open Regional and Language Options, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Regional and Language Options.

  • To open HyperTerminal, click Start, point to All programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click HyperTerminal.

  • HyperTerminal is not installed by default. For information on how to install HyperTerminal, see Related Topics.

  • The East Asian languages include Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. The files for most other languages are installed on your computer automatically by Windows.

  • It is recommended that you install these files only if you are going to be entering or receiving text in one or more of these languages. The Chinese, Japanese, and Korean files require about 230 megabytes (MB) of space on your hard disk. In addition to the language files, Input Method Editors (IMEs) are installed for each of the three languages.

  • Similar steps can be used to configure HyperTerminal to view other languages as well.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
