Enabling the SPCR table

The Serial Port Console Redirection (SPCR) table provides information on how the system firmware and the service processor use the out-of-band management port. For example, if the out-of-band management port is a serial port, the SPCR table contains information such as serial port number, baud rate, terminal type, and other settings used for out-of-band communication. If the out-of-band management port is a non-legacy Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) interface on a service processor, the SPCR table provides information about the location and type of UART interface.

The SPCR table ensures that there is a smooth transition between the system firmware and Emergency Management Services.

The SPCR table is usually enabled automatically if you have a service processor that supports Emergency Management Services, or you have enabled firmware console redirection. See your original equipment manufacturer (OEM) documentation to determine whether your computer supports the SPCR table and whether you must adhere to special requirements to enable it.

Windows Server 2003 operating systems attempt to configure Emergency Management Services hardware resource settings to match SPCR table settings without user intervention. If your system does not have an SPCR table, you must configure the Emergency Management Services settings to match the firmware settings, providing the operating system with the Emergency Management Services out-of-band port parameters.
