Connection-Oriented NDIS Miniport Drivers (NDIS 5.1)
Note NDIS 5. x has been deprecated and is superseded by NDIS 6. x. For new NDIS driver development, see Network Drivers Starting with Windows Vista. For information about porting NDIS 5. x drivers to NDIS 6. x, see Porting NDIS 5.x Drivers to NDIS 6.0.
A connection-oriented miniport driver controls one or more NICs for connection-oriented media, such as ATM. Connection-oriented miniport drivers must be deserialized. For more information about deserialized drivers, see Deserialized NDIS Miniport Drivers.
A connection-oriented miniport driver provides an interface between connection-oriented protocols (connection-oriented clients and call managers) and the NIC hardware. For a summary of connection-oriented operations performed by a connection-oriented miniport driver, see Connection-Oriented Operations Performed by Miniport Drivers.
A connection-oriented miniport drivers must register the following MiniportXxx functions that are specific to connection-oriented operations:
For more information about registering these functions, see NdisMRegisterMiniport.
