Connecting a Remote Tool Over the Serial Kernel Transport (Windows CE 5.0)
If you connect to a target device using the serial kernel transport, you must take the following steps to connect a remote tool to the target device. For more information about kernel transports, see Kernel Transport Services.
Do not use the Remote System Information tool with the serial kernel transport. The Remote System Information tool attempts to use the serial driver built into the run-time image and disrupts serial communications between the development workstation and the target device.
To connect a remote tool over the serial kernel transport
From the Tools menu, choose a remote tool.
From the Connection menu of the remote tool window, choose Configure Windows CE Platform Manager.
Expand the Windows CE Default Platform node.

Expand the node for the devices that you want to configure.
Select Default Device, and then choose Properties.

If you created a device, select the entry for your device, and then choose Properties.
In the Transport box, choose KITL Transport for Windows CE, and then choose Configure.
To turn off the keep-alive thread for Platform Manager, clear the Check connection status check box, and then choose OK.
You must turn off the keep-alive thread, because the serial kernel transport does not enable interrupts on the target device. For more information, see KITL Transport.
Choose OK, and then choose OK again.
From the Connection menu of the remote tool window, choose Connect.
Expand the Windows CE Default Platform node.
Choose Default Device.

If, in the Windows CE Platform Manager Configuration dialog box, you created a device under a custom name, choose the custom name.
Choose OK.
