You can add an IPv6 route to the route table. Internet Protocol (IP) compares the destination address to entries in this table and decides what action to take.

Before adding an IPv6 route, ensure that on-link prefixes have an interface and that off-link prefixes have an interface and a next-hop address. For example, if there are multiple network interface cards in a gateway, you must determine which route (address) to use.

To add an IPv6 route

1. At a command prompt, type ipv6 rtu PrefixIfIndex[/Address] [life Valid[/Preferred]] [preference P] [publish] [age] [spl SitePrefixLength], where Prefix specifies the prefix for which to add a route, Address is an IPv6 address, and the SitePrefixLength is the site prefix length associated with the route.
2. Press ENTER.
