Windows CE Wireless Zero Configuration Service (Windows CE 5.0)
The Windows CE Wireless Zero Configuration service configures the wireless network adapter to connect to an available wireless network. If there are two networks covering the same area, you can configure a preferred network order and the device will try to contact each network in the order defined until it locates one that is active. You can also limit association to only the configured, preferred networks.
If it is unable to locate a wireless AP nearby, by default, a Windows CE-based wireless client device configures the network adapter to use ad hoc mode. Or, you can configure the wireless network adapter to automatically disable if no AP can be located.
These network adapter enhancements are integrated with security technologies. If authentication with one wireless AP or network fails, the device will attempt to authenticate with the additional detected wireless networks.
The Windows CE-based client device attempts to perform an 802.11 shared key authentication if the network adapter has been preconfigured with a WEP shared key. If shared key authentication fails or if the network adapter is not preconfigured with a WEP shared key, the network adapter reverts to open system authentication.
