Tools Menu Options (Compact 2013)

The Tools menu and its submenus provide many capabilities for embedded development. For information about menu options not specific to Platform Builder, see the Microsoft Visual Studio documentation.

Platform Builder

To display the Platform Builder tools menu, go to Tools > Platform Builder. The following table describes the menu options.

Option

Description

Clone BSP

Displays the Clone BSP Dialog Box.

License Run-Time Image

Displays the License Run-Time Image Dialog Box. For information about licensing a run-time image at a command prompt, see Stampbin Tool.

Run-time License Assessment Tool

Displays the Run-Time License Assessment Tool.

Load Build Output into Error List

Displays the Error List Dialog Box after prompting you for the file to load in the dialog box.

Customer Feedback Options

Displays a dialog box for you to participate in the Customer Experience Improvement Program.

Show Scripts View

Opens the Scripts window, where you can select and execute scripts.

Configure Scripts

Displays the Configure Scripts Dialog Box.

Run Active Script

Runs the script that you select in the Scripts window.

Windows Embedded XAML Tool Menu Options

To display the XAML tools menu, go to Tools > Windows Embedded XAML Tools. The following table describes the menu options.

XAML tool

Description

Update XAML for Windows Embedded Project...

Updates the XAML for a subproject. Before choosing this option, open a file in the subproject that you want to update.

Windows Embedded Events

Displays the Event Handlers View in which you can add events to objects. For more information, see Add Event Handlers.

Create Platform Builder Subproject…

Displays the Create Platform Builder Subproject wizard.

Remote Tools Menu Options

The remote tools menu provides access to remote tools for diagnostic analysis and debugging. To display the remote tools menu, go to Tools > Remote Tools. For more information about remote tools, see Remote Tools. The following table describes the menu options.

Remote tool

Description

Timeline Viewer

Provides a graphical user interface (GUI) in which you can use service providers to collect and analyze data.

Kernel Tracker

Provides a visual representation of OS and application events occurring on a target device.

Performance Monitor

Measures the performance of a device.

Profiler

Provides profiling and analysis tools in a GUI that enables you to find algorithmic bottlenecks in your applications.

Registry Editor

Displays the registry for a device and enables you to manage the registry.

Resource Consumer

Provides information about resource use on a device.

Resource Leak Detector

Detects resource leaks. For information, see Remote Resource Leak Detector.

System Information

Displays system settings and properties for a device. For more information, see Remote System Information.

Remote Tools Shell

Displays the shell in which plug-ins based on the Remote Tools Framework run.

Debug Mode

Turns debug mode on or off.

File Viewer

Runs the Windows CE Remote File Viewer to provide information about files on the remote device, or to import or export files. For more information, see Remote File Viewer.

Heap Walker

Runs the Windows CE Remote Heap Walker, which displays heap information for processes on the remote device.

Process Viewer

Runs the Windows CE Remote Process Viewer, which displays information about processes, threads and modules on the remote device.

Zoom

Runs Windows CE Remote Zoom-in, which uploads and displays a bit map of the screen of the remote device.
