Map control design guidelines for Windows Phone

[ This article is for Windows Phone 8 developers. If you’re developing for Windows 10, see the latest documentation. ]

The Map control embeds a maps view inside your app.

Map control

This topic contains the following sections.

Appearance and action

A Map control displays a geographical map of a location.

Standard use

Use a Map control within your app to let users view app-specific or general geographic info without having to leave your app. Map controls can display the user’s location, provide directions, find points of interest, or view traffic. A Map control can also show aerial views, traffic, and local search results in list form.

Design guidelines

Use ample screen space or, ideally, the entire screen space to display a Map control so that users don’t have to scroll and zoom excessively within the Map to view geographical info; if the control is only used to present a static, informational view, then it’s acceptable to use a smaller Map control.
