Prerequisites

Before you begin programming your PlayReady protected Windows Store app, the following software needs to be installed on your system:

If you are planning to play back MPEG-2/H.262 content on your app, you must also download and install Windows 8.1 Media Center Pack.

Note that the Windows 8.1 .vsix file only supports building Windows 8.1 apps.

Note

Throughout this document, Windows 8 will be used synonymously to represent Windows 8.1.

In addition to this software, if you are creating a Windows Store App in Visual Studio 2013 or newer for the first time, a dialog box opens that informs you that you must get a developer license for Windows 8. If this occurs, read the license terms and then choose I Agree. You will be asked to log into your Microsoft account with your username and password. Once you do so, your developer license will be downloaded to your machine. The developer license has an expiration date, so you will be prompted to renew your license before it expires to continue developing Windows Store apps.
