Download to Own Scenario
The Download to Own (one time purchase) scenario is one in which the user has a persistent non-expiring license for the media. The license is acquired proactively and retained forever on the media device.
If a PlayReady domain is employed, then the user is free to play the media on any device that the user signs into using their credentials for that domain.
Media that is targeted for domain use can use embedded licenses. Embedded licenses allow the media to be copied to, and played on, any other media device where the user can be authenticated on the domain.
This scenario demonstrates the following features:
- Persistent (non-expiring) license
- Proactive license acquisition
- Manual license acquisition
- Domains
- License embedding
Implementation features this scenario demonstrates are:
- Domain APIs
- Embedding APIs
The Download to Own scenario starts with an end user purchasing media content and downloading it to their media device for playing sometime later. For example, an online video store charges customers to download a video file, which users can watch with their Windows Store app whenever they want.
