Configuring the malware inspection storage location
Updated: February 1, 2011
Applies To: Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG)
This topic describes how to change the default file location for files undergoing malware inspection. Forefront TMG creates a folder named ScanStorage to store files for malware inspection. The default location is %SystemRoot%\Temp\ScanStorage.
Note
When downloading a large number of files larger than 64KB, performance issues may arise. If you experience these issues, it is recommended that you move the ScanStorage folder to a separate physical disk.
The following procedure describes how you can modify the path to the ScanStorage folder on your system.
To specify a location to temporarily store files for inspection
In the Forefront TMG Management console, in the tree, click the Web Access Policy node.
On the Tasks tab, click Configure Malware Inspection.
On the Storage tab, specify the folder in which the files for inspection should be temporarily held.
Important
- The path specified must exist on all Forefront TMG servers in the array. It is therefore recommended that you use an environment variable (such as %SystemRoot%) within the path name in order to allow per-server adjustment of the path.
- Ensure that you exempt this folder from inspection by any other antimalware applications running on the Forefront TMG server.
