Security Server Installation Wizard
After Windows Server 2008 is installed, the Security Server Installation Wizard installs Windows EBS on the Security Server.
Before you can install Windows EBS on the Security Server, you must finish installing Windows EBS on the Management Server.

Choose the internal network adapter |
Click the network adapter that you want to use for your internal network (LAN) connection, and verify that it is connected to the network. Note The Security Server must have two network adapters, one for connecting to the internal Windows EBS network, and one for your external connection. Choose temporary IP addresses |
Configure temporary IP address settings to use during the installation to connect to the Microsoft Update Web site for critical updates and to connect to the computers that already exist on your network. Later in the wizard, you will reconfigure these settings to the final IP address settings for the Security Server. At that time the temporary settings are discarded. Critical updates installed |
Review the status of the installation of critical updates from Microsoft Update. |
Choose the external network adapter |
Click the network adapter that you want to use for your external connection. Note This page does not appear if you have only two network adapters in your computer. |
Join the Active Directory domain |
Type the Active Directory domain name for the domain that the Management Server is joined to. Type the user name and password for an account with Enterprise Administrator's permissions on this domain, and then click Join domain. The server restarts. When you log on again, the wizard displays the Progress of joining the domain page. |
Check the environment |
To check your environment to verify its compatibility with Windows EBS, click Check environment. The Environment check is finished page displays the status of the completed checks. |
Set the internal IP address |
Review the recommended internal IP address settings for the Security Server (or you can manually configure the settings). In most cases, it is recommended that you click Use the recommended network settings. For more information about IP addresses in the Windows EBS network, see: |
Set the external IP address |
Choose to use DHCP to automatically configure external IP address settings, or you can manually configure the external IP address settings. For more information about IP addresses in the Windows EBS network, see: |
Choose an Administrator password |
Type and confirm a password for the default local Administrator account on the Security Server. For more information about security settings for this account, see: |
Set the e-mail gateway |
Click the appropriate option to choose whether to temporarily forward e-mail to your existing e-mail server during the Windows EBS installation. To temporarily forward e-mail, click I want to forward e-mail to this IP address and then type the IP address of your existing e-mail server. To allow SMTP traffic through the Security Server, provide the SMTP domains that are associated with your e-mail accounts. If you are running Exchange Server in your environment, the Installation Wizard automatically detects the SMTP settings. Verify the names that appear in the SMTP domain name list box. Remote access settings |
Type the name that you want to use to establish remote access to your network services (for example, remote.adventure-works.com). For more information about remote access settings, see: |
Choose a volume for storing data |
Choose a disk volume to store the data for your applications. Click Disk Management if you need to format a hard disk drive, create a partition, or perform other disk management tasks. For more information about data storage locations in Windows EBS, see: |
Integrate the Security Server |
Follow the instructions to pause your software installation so that you can choose how to route Internet traffic through the Security Server. If you do not have a gateway device, such as a router or a firewall, that connects your network to the Internet, this page does not appear. For more information about integrating the Security Server in your network, see: |
Review the Security Server installation |
Before installing Windows EBS on the Security Server, the wizard lists all of the settings that you have entered. Click Install to begin the installation process, or return to a previous page to make changes. The Progress of Security Server installation page displays progress bars that show you how the installation is proceeding. Depending on the settings that you chose, the server may automatically restart several times during the installation process. |
Adjust firewall settings |
If you chose to retain your existing firewall, you must manually update your e-mail and HTTP settings on your existing device to forward to the Security Server. Choose optional updates |
If you did not choose to automatically install optional updates, you can choose whether to install the most recent updates for all of your installed server roles:
