Speech Application SDK Requirements

The Microsoft Speech Application SDK Version 1.1 (SASDK) supports operation and application development with U.S. English operating systems using U.S. English locales only. Within that environment, it is possible to create applications for U.S. English and other languages.

System Requirements

Mouse	Microsoft mouse or compatible pointing device
Hard Disk Space	Recommended: 1 GB free space
Microphone	Recommended

Software Requirements

The following software is required for installation of the SASDK. Installing the items in the order listed is recommended.

1. Internet Information Services
2. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1
3. Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
4. Microsoft Enterprise Instrumentation framework
5. English Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 Professional, Enterprise Architect, Enterprise Developer, or Trial Edition (required only for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 Speech Development Tools)
6. Updates are included in the Updates directory, which is located in the Prerequisites directory that is at the root level of the SASDK CD (or the root level of the unzipped files that have been downloaded from the Web). See the SASDK Readme file for more information.

Recommended: Install all available service packs and critical updates from https://windowsupdate.microsoft.com prior to running setup for the SASDK.

Remarks

1. RAM: Performance has not been tuned for minimum system configuration. Increasing RAM above the recommended system configuration increases performance.
2. Microphone: To achieve optimal performance, use a high quality close-talk (headset) microphone. A universal serial bus (USB) microphone with gain adjustment support is recommended.
3. Microsoft Enterprise Instrumentation framework: The Enterprise Instrumentation installer is included on the SASDK CD, and is located in the directory labeled "EnterpriseInstrumentation."
4. Internet Information Services (IIS): For assistance with the installation of IIS, refer to the operating system’s help documentation.
5. Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 Trial Edition: Users who do not have Visual Studio, but who want to try out the Speech Development Tools, can download a 60-day Trial Edition of Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 Professional from MSDN.
