IIS Admin Object Hierarchy

The following illustration shows the hierarchy of admin objects that are used by ADSI and WMI to reference configurable locations in the metabase. Orange nodes are not available in IIS 5.1 and earlier versions.

A similar diagram, which uses friendly names instead of admin object names, is available in the section titled "Internal Structure" in the Metabase Structure topic.

Schema and Instance

When an admin object is used to reference a configurable location in the metabase, an instance of that object is created. The following illustration shows the relationship between the schema of an admin object and an instance.
