Sorting

The sorting function makes it easy for you to get a quick overview of your data. For example, if you have many customers, you can choose to sort your customers by:

  • Customer No.

  • Search Name

  • Customer Posting Group

  • Currency Code

  • Country Region Code

  • General Business Posting Group

  • Name, Address, City

  • VAT Registration No.

Each sorting option (or combination of sorting options) is called a key.

Sort Lists and Journal Lines

To sort for example the list of customers by name in ascending order, follow these steps:

  1. Click Sales & Marketing, Sales, and then click Customers.

  2. If the filter pane is not already visible in the Customers window, click CustomizeLayout button and select Filter Pane .

  3. Click the drop-down arrow in the Sorting field to open a drop-down menu, and then select Search Name.

  4. Click the sorting order button next to the sorting key field, and then select Sort ascending.

The same steps apply to journals, such as the Planning Worksheet window.

Sort Document Lines

To sort for example lines on a sales order, follow these steps:

  1. Click Sales & Marketing, Order Processing, Sales Orders , and then open the first sales order.

  2. If the filter pane is not already visible in the Sales Order window, click CustomizeLayout button and select Filter Pane .

  3. Click the Lines FastTab, click ActionsAction Menu icon, and then click Sort.

  4. In the Arrange By section of the Customize Lines window, click the drop-down menu in the Sort items by field to select a sorting key.

  5. To change the sorting order, select the Ascending or Descending button respectively.

Note

The sorting key may include several columns, and a column may be a part of multiple sorting keys. Sorting keys are often based on columns that are not shown in the list. For example, you can select the sorting key Document Type, No in the Sort item by field but you can not choose a column called Document Type.
