How to: Customize a View in "Quadrant"

The most common way of customizing the data experience is to use the standard user interface gestures in Microsoft code name “Quadrant”, as explained in this topic. This topic uses the sample databases included with “Quadrant”. To install the samples, see How to: Install the "Quadrant" Sample Data.
To select columns to display
If the repository explorer is not open, on the View menu, click Explorer, and then click Repository.
In the repository explorer, click the triangle to the left of Catalog to expand the node.
Click the triangle to the left of Microsoft.Samples.Organization to expand it.
Drag and drop the People icon to the workspace. If the collection does not open in a table viewer, switch the view to Custom People Table.
On the View menu, click Column Settings.
Select the following columns to add to the viewer:
HomeAddress
Tasks
WorksFromHome
Processes
To change a column viewer
Click the first cell in the HomeAddress column to select it.
On the View menu, click View Column As, and click ComboBox.
Click the combo box and select a value from the drop-down list.
To change a cell viewer
In the row for Kim Akers, click the Tasks cell to select it.
On the View menu, click View Cell As, and click List.
To revert the cell viewer
In the row for Kim Akers, click the Tasks cell to select it.
On the View menu, click View Cell As, and click Collection Relationship.
To see a diagram viewer
From the row for Kim Akers, drag and drop the Processes cell to an empty space on the workspace.
From the Processes workpad, drag and drop the HR Hire Review icon to an empty space on the workspace.
To rotate a hierarchical diagram
Select the diagram's workpad.
On the View menu, click Layout, and click Hierarchical.
On the View menu, click Rotate Diagram, and click Clockwise.
To change spacing in hierarchical diagrams
- On the View menu, click Spacing, and click Very Tight to change the spacing between diagram shapes.
To change a diagram to a freeform layout
Select the HR Hire Review workpad.
On the View menu, click Diagram Layout, and click Freeform.
The diagram can now be changed. Drag and reposition shapes as needed.
To change a diagram shape to a properties viewer
In the HR Hire Review diagram, select the Complete Interview icon.
On the View menu, click View Shape As, and click Properties.
To revert a properties viewer to a shape
Select the nested Complete Interview viewer by clicking its title bar.
On the View menu, click View Shape As, and click Shape.
To view an individual shape
From the Processes-HR Hire Review workpad, drag and drop the Do Background Check shape to an empty space on the workspace. You can now examine the properties of the individual shape.
Close the HR Hire Review workpad.
To view a subprocess
In the repository explorer, expand the Microsoft.Samples.Process node.
Click the Processes node.
From the right pane, drag and drop the Processes icon to an empty space on the workspace.
The Processes-Collection workpad appears.
From the workpad, drag and drop the New Employee Onboarding row to an empty space on the workspace.
Note
To drag the entire entity from the collection, drag the icon located at the far left of the row.
In the Processes-New Employee Onboarding workpad, find the HR Hire Review shape.
In the upper left corner, click the plus (+) sign.
The HR Hire Review process appears as a subprocess in a nested workpad.
Close the subprocess and close the Processes-New Employee Onboarding workpad.
To view more information
In the People workpad, drag and drop the icon for Kim Akers to an empty space on the workspace. (Drag the icon located at the far left of the row.)
To see the responsibilities associated with a person, click the down arrow under Current Events.
Click the same arrow to collapse the information.
We will now examine the current events information.
To customize views of fields
Click the Current Events field to select it.
On the menu, click View, then click View Item As, and click List.
You can now see a list of events.
Resize the workpad to see the whole list.
Click any event in the list to select it.
On the menu, click Edit, and then click Insert Item. The New Event icon appears in the list.
Drag and drop the New Event to an empty space on the workspace.
Click the Subject field to edit it, and type All Hands Meeting.
Select the People-Collection workpad.
Click the upper-right hand corner, and select Tree from the menu.
On the View menu, click Sort By Display Name.
On the View menu, clear the Show Child Counts menu item.
The number counts that are next to the tree items disappear.
Saving Views
You can save the view and associate it with the table so the configuration is not lost. You can also associate the saved view with a table to make it the default viewer.
To save a view
Select the configured workpad.
On the View menu, click Save View As….
In the dialog box, type a name for the view.
Optional. To make the view the default for the table, click the Preferred viewer<workpad name> box.
Click Save.
When the dialog closes, click the upper right corner of the workpad to display the views available for the table. The newly named view is available in the drop-down list.
