Server upgrade exams

Apparently the only two things I talk about are dumb hat slogans or 2003-->2008 transition exams. You are not alone if you are finding this increasingly tedious. But back to business:

RE: Hat slogans, try this on for size.

RE: Transition exams, the prep guides have been updated to (hopefully) provide better information about what is covered.

Apparently the only thing YOU talk about is your beta scores (that's right, the Road of Tedium runs both ways, my friends!). Here is what I know: my friend Dave, the Server portfolio manager, scurried by earlier looking for info on scores, went down the hall and heckled all the right people, and came back to tell me, in a glum fashion, that it's true they haven't been scored yet. In the meantime, Keep Clam, pls k thx.

I refuse to be drawn in by the tedium! And will instead focus on asking you if there might be an ISA certification in the pipeline or other security cert because security is somewhere that customers are putting a lot of focus now even in the down-market targets.   They are looking for us to have credentials that they could be considering for engageemnts related to PCI compliance in particular.  ISA, server security, policy formulation and management. Any plans you can disclose, trika?

in reply to Helmer: yeah, that would show Microsoft's appreciation to the people that deserve it! The more people that can show they have Windows 2008 certification the faster the success story of Windows 2008 by companies -:)

@Sander  that should be fun :) hehe Last week I talked to a Dutch Microsoft guy and he told me that a few thousand people took the 648 and 649 exams....hmm..that would make a few thousand people MCTS Server 2008 blabla at once. Hmm...maybe they could all the early adapters the Gold-Early-Bird-MCTS pass (or how do you Microsoft guys call it?)?? ;)

anxiously awaiting my results as well. I second packetboy: "if i didnt do enough to pass then so be it, id just like to know either way so if I did fail I can start studying again and be ready for the RTM 649..." Wasn't the initial word that results should be available 10/1? I've been checking my transcript since then, but have taken another exam since, so I won't be able to tell by the transcript update date...

I probably said that wrong. There is a lot involved in scoring the betas. What is true is that you should not have your results yet, because they aren't available to you yet. That doesn't mean that the scoring process is not underway. Gregory, I've been telling people to expect results sometime before the live date (oct 29) but not to freak out until then. Usually they are available a few weeks before, but not always.

Thanks! I haven't done a beta for some while... we do still get a score report via mail after scoring is complete?

I have a couple of questions that I was asked during a recent presentation I did on the new certs. Any assistance to answer would be greatly appreciated. Are the current and future exams moderated to limit the number of MCSE's? Do the W2K8 exams also include exam questions that are worth no marks?

"Are the current and future exams moderated to limit the number of MCSE's? " I highly doubt it.. The more MCSE's the better it is for Microsoft.. you might not consciously do it but MCSE's are great pushers of Microsoft software... So Microsoft needs us as much as we need them (although MCSE does not count for that much anymore.. Please MS add a prac exam to the top top cert like MCITP EA much like the CCIE and RHEL Certs?!) packetboy...

"I haven't done a beta for some while... we do still get a score report via mail after scoring is complete?" Yep! I eventually received score reports in the mail from both versions of the MCITP:Vista beta exam.

I know the only reason you talk about hats is to get your post count up. Only ranked #4 on msdn blogs? .. Shocking performance T, shocking. :o)

What is the "MCITP: Network Administrator" references in the prep pages for 70-648 and 70-649? Looks like there will be three "MCITP: _____ Administrator" credentials...  Server, Network, Enterprise... We want to know everything!!!  ;-)

BTW, this is the best MSDN blog, regardless of popularity...  Quality, not necessarily just Quantity is what matters here...

I second JTB's question.  What is the MCITP: Network Administrator and why isn't the MCITP: Server Administrator listed?   The next gen certification changes are confusing enough already.  I'm started to get frustrated with it, and I didn't even take any of the beta exams.

Andy, don't get frustrated!  It's too early in the process.  Heck, Server 2008 isn't really even out yet... I think the change in certs is an interesting idea.  Many people claim MCSE status; but never took an exam covering Active Directory.  Many others point to Cisco certs and various other Continuing Education (CE) programs as being more valid that the original MCP program.  I'm not certain I agree with 'em; but I take an exam or three every year anyway to keep up with the technology.  The new certification regime will just require everyone who wants the title to have fresh skills... I wish there was a check in the mail; but I'd settle for a "Certified by Trika" hat...  ;-)

Oh well, it's the weekend & exams are live from Monday. Presume results will flow in on Mon am, since I don't see how anyone could take the live exam without the question pool being confirmed & weightings sorted and whatever else, & I don't see how the marking is any more than a SQL script if we know the weighting... Or is the exam live date getting moved back, or something else I'm not aware of?

So I called Pearson Vue and was informed that they do not and will not know the results of the beta tests, and that Microsoft is responsible for releasing the results. They did give me a number to call Microsoft and check if the results are even available yet. (800-636-7544) When I called that number I was told that they don't have access to the results and I would be informed of pass/fail by email when the results come available. Looks like it's a game of "Hurry up and wait".

I rang the MCP helpdesk and they didn't know what I was on about. They keep saying that it can take up to 10 days for the results to show - even though I explained to them that I took the beta exams 3 months ago and that the results should be available with the release of the live exams. I rang Vue (as I did my exams with them) and all they said was that they'll contact MS to see what the problem was. Oh well, it's the waiting game again :(

:( Still waiting. I'd really hoped that I'd see results at least the week the exam is live. It's disappointing that I could have gone and taken the test Monday and gotten the score RIGHT THERE - but instead took it in June and still don't have my score (or even pass/fail status). I don't see how they can have accurate metrics for pass/fail on the live exams but not the ability to apply the same metrics to our tests by the date it goes "live"

The status of my exam changed from Tested to Passed some days ago in the Prometric website (last week I think) and it also appears in my Transcript, but only as an exam I passed... nothing about the certifications
