The internet as a time capsule

A friend of mine just looked up her parents' engagement announcement from the New York Times' online archive, from 1950. I thought to myself "how neat is that?"... but then I had to remind myself that by the time my son is old enough to use a computer and care about his parents' history, he'll have it even easier, he will just have to google his father and myself.

Twenty years from now, will he find this entry? Jared, are you out there? I love you.

    That's really cool, KC-- my eldest son is 8 and already (sort of) understands Google. I don't think he's tried searching for himself yet, but I guess I'd better sow a few breadcrumbs for him to find when he does. I suppose this is the more-modern equivalent of <a href="http://www.luquette.org/inspire/shmily.htm">SHMILY</a>.

    That was a really neat story, thanks for sharing. I like the idea of leaving breadcrumbs for our children in this way - a different kind of legacy than the kind our parents left for us.
