Alton Brown's choice is cheese. If the name doesn't ring a bell, he's the new host of the Iron Chef America series and has been hosting Good Eats on the food channel for a while. It's a great show because he doesn't just show you how to make the food, he explains the history and/or science of it at the same time. One episode in particular comes to mind, where he prepares mac 'n cheese from scratch and talks about the origins of Yankee Doodle (i.e. stick a feather in my cap and call it macarohhhniiiii).

My choice? Tough call. Cheese is a good one. Chocolate comes to mind as another food that is available in a variety of forms to allow for some variety. Bread too, mmm bread. No atkins for me, nosirree. I could probably survive on pizza too, as long as it's not Papa John's.

    Hmm.

    Well, if we're being 'vague', pizza is a good option because you can throw whatever toppings on it that you want and it is still 'pizza'

    It could be veggie, it could be meat.

    Chili is a good possibility too, since every chili tastes a little different, there are meat options, veggie options, with cheese, with onions, with jalapenos...

    Well, if you're going to stretch the rules (e.g., the food was a "theme ingredient") I'd have to pick rice. Bagels would be a close second.

    If you follow the strict rules, cheese is about an ideal choice.

    I'd intended to add a smiley at the end about pizza, but forgot - because you see, it was a very funny joke, and quite a zinger for papa johns, whooo boy!
