Microsoft Office Developer Guidance

One of my colleagues here at Microsoft wrote something that was really so
overdue: a sweeping yet highly detailed overview of the world of Office
development: Office
2003 Document: Overview of Developer Technologies
. Another friend and
OfficeZealot guru, Charles Maxson, blogged about this saying, "So, you
want to ben and Office Developer? Read this..."
. He's right, this is
the document to read if you are new to Office programmability
or if you have been targeting some Office apps but have never explored the OMs
or technologies of other programs.

One of the things that sets this document apart is the liberal use of
resource links throughout the document. There are links to all sorts of
articles, downloads, and so forth that will help pretty much anyone who has
anything to do with Office programmability. It's well written, and my editor
(she is simply brilliant) polished it nicely. FYI: most people don't know but
ALL programmability documentation for any Microsoft Office-branded product goes
through her inbox. Everyone should thank her!

Thought for the day:

I'm reading the
book about Jim Morrison

that I have blogged about previously. It's pretty well written, although the
author sometimes speculates way too much about Jimmy's psychological condition.
All history is fiction, as we all know, but there's fiction, and then there's
just a tall tale. Jimmy's life was bizarre enough without any blatant
embellishment needed. In any case, I see many parallels between him and Kurt
Cobain. Read Cross' biography of Cobain, as it is an excellent read (although a
little too generous in its depictions of Courtney Love as mother and bride).

Rock on.
