I am curious about the difference between the ASP.NET developer tracks. 70-562 and 70-564. Can you shed some light on the differences and when these tests will be available?Anonymous
May 06, 2008
Hi Tobias, 562 and 564 are not seperate tracks per se. 562 is the MCTS exam for ASP.NET developers and 564 is the MCPD exam for the same audience. You cannot acquire the MCPD credential without taking the MCTS credential so they are sort of complementary. Take a look at my early posts on the certification series to understand the differences between the MCTS and MCPD credential. 70-562 will be available later this summer but 564 won't be available until early next year. Will there be a Live Meeting for 70-528? If so, when? Thanks, SeanAnonymous

Hi Sean, Not that I am aware of at this time. Trika schedules these so I will ask her to address your question when she gets back from vacation. Gerry.Anonymous

Hi, Sean and Gerry. No, we don't have one planned. If the 536 meeting goes well, we'll consider adding some other exams to the list! TrikaAnonymous

Hi Gerry, Were either of yesterday's webcasts recorded and if so, are they available for download or online viewing? Thanks, DougAnonymous
May 23, 2008
Hi Doug, They were both recorded and Trika is working on posting the recorded sessions. I will post the link here and it will be on Trika's blog as well as soon as she gets them uploaded. Hopefully in the next day or two. GerryAnonymous

Hi Gerry, Thanks for the response. Also I wanted to thank you, Trika, and Jeff (and your teams) for all your efforts in getting relevant information to developers like me. I have found your guidance invaluable when planning my certification paths. Your hard work is appreciated. Regards, DougAnonymous

Hi Doug, Thanks very much for the comments and feedback. We try to ensure we are meeting the developer's needs and although we don't hit 100% satisfaction, it's nice to know our efforts are definitely helping. GerryAnonymous

Hi Larry, Two things;
- I don't know where you are located so I cannot help you determine what that time is in your region.
- What date did you try to access this? The Live Meeting was held on May 22 at 7:30 AM PDT and 5:00 PM PDT. The sessions were recorded and the recorded session will be available shortly. Gerry

Hi, What would you recommend for a person just starting off on the MCPD certification with no prior certification under his belt? With the new 3.5 certification exams would you suggest taking the MCPD 2.0 track then upgrading or would you suggest going diretly for the 3.5 track since it is the lastest certification available. And woth the changes in the different tracks, how would all these affect the books? Are the 70-528 and 70-547 going to be relevant for the 3.5 track?Anonymous
June 12, 2008
Hi Aminu, That decision is entirely based on what you want or need from your certification. If your end goal is to be certified on .NET 3.5, I would suggest you start there. If you want to show certification on both 2.0 and 3.5, then starting on 2.0 and upgrading would be the way to go. New Training Kits are being worked on now and will be releasing over the next few months. Existing books, such as those for the Windows exam on 2.0, are still relevant for 3.5. You can also use the Web training kit for the majority of prep but then go over the What's New sections on MSDN for 3.5. Hope that helps. GerryAnonymous

I want to do certification on .net 2008 which is best.Anonymous

Ramanadham, You're going to have to provide some more information than that. The only way someone can tell which is best, is for you to say what you want to be certified in. Web applications? Windows applications? Please be more specific in your requirements. GerryAnonymous

what is the difference in course content of 70-528 and 70-562. am currently working on some old .Net 2.0 applications and new 3.5 applications should I go for 528 or 562 ThanksAnonymous

Hi sadia, These are exams and not courses. They test your knowledge rather than train you. The primary differences will be in the new features added to ASP.NET 3.5 as well as AJAX and some Silverlight. Which you choose will depend on which version of the framework you want to focus on. Gerry
