8 digits instead of 6 on install on new iphone without backup

My iphone got wet and stopped working. I tried to install authenticator on the new phone but now I have 8 digits instead of 6 digits. I cannot get into a few apps. I have tried many things but it seems that without the authenticator backup I am unable to fix this. Please help.
