indic_general_90_ci_as was not found

I am trying to install SQL SERVER 2014 version but I am getting "indic_general_90_ci_as was not found" error.
I have attached the screenshot of the error as well.

Kindly help me how to fix this error. What does this error mean?

The screenshot is missing, but I think I know what is going on. May I guess that your system locale is Hindi (India) or some other language of India?

Then some part of Setup may get the idea that default for the server collation should be Indic_General_90_CI_AS, but this collation cannot be used as a server collation, as it only supports nvarchar and not varchar.

When running Setup, pay attention when you come to the Server Configuration page where there is a tab Collation. Go to that tab and select a different collation. I would recommend that you use Latin1_General_100_CI_AS. Do not select a collation without a number; these collations are old and have incomplete support for Indian languages.

Based on your suggestion I used "Latin1_General_100_CI_AS" and it solved the issue of Collation. Thank you for that.

Now, am getting another error i.e. screenshot attached below. what is this error and how to solve this? [Windows Installer return code '2']

Kindly suggest.

Before we try to tackle this error (which I know far less about than the collation issue), which version of SQL Server do you really want to install? The summary.txt file you posted were for SQL 2019, and you seem to have a number of SQL 2019 instances already, although they may all be result of installation failures. I see in the summary.txt, that the collation is Indic_General_90_CI_AS there as well.

SQL 2014 is a very old version by now, and you would only install it if you have special needs. Even SQL 2019 is getting a little dated, and SQL 2022 should be your prime choice. But again, you may have special needs.

Yes, you are right I have tried 2019 version before but failed to install it. I tried it multiple times but was unsuccessful to install it.

I know SQL 2022 is the latest and I should go for that, there is a reason why I tried these versions for my installtion.

The reason is:

I want SQL Server and SSIS both in my system to work.

I did some research to choose the right version, and I got 2019 is the stable version to work on both SQL Server and SSIS simultaneously. In 2022 version, something doesn't work.

Hence, I installed Visual Studio 2019 for SSIS and tried SQL Server 2019 to install, and I failed to install SQL Server 2019.

Hence, now am trying to install SQL Server 2014 as a last hope to install it in my system for the work.

If you can help me to install 2019 or 2022 versions then i'll be more than happy.

So it seems that there are three problems involved here:

The collation.

Using SSIS with SQL 2022.

The error about the browser service you got in your most recent attempt.

Let's start with the collation. What prevented you from installing SQL 2019 was most likely the collation. I've never tried the Setup for SQL 2014 with a Hindi locale, but it seems that this Setup stopped you at the gate. SQL 2019 does not, but it goes on and tries to install, and then it fails when it tries to start SQL Server, since SQL Server don't like the collation. The remedy is the same as for SQL 2014: When you run the Setup wizard and you come to the Server Configuration page, go to the Collation tab and change the collation.

With SQL 2022 this is different. Microsoft has fixed this embarrassing bug, and the default collation for Hindi is now Indic_General_90_CI_AS_SC_UTF8, which is usable server collation. I would still recommend that you change this to Indic_General_100_CI_AS_SC_UTF8, since with the higher version, SQL Server understands more characters.

When it comes to SSIS, I don't use SSIS myself, so I don't have the same amount of expertise to share as with collations. I seem to recall that there has been some issues with SQL 2022 support in Visual Studio and SSDT, but I would like to believe that Microsoft has fixed this now that SQL 2022 is in its third year of existence. So download the most recent version of SSDT, and I think it works fine with SQL 2022.

Lastly, the browser service error, I can just pray and hope that this is unique to the attempt to install SQL 2014, because it is one of these errors, I don't understand and I don't how to fix.

So I would say: try to install SQL 2022, and then try to get SSIS to work with SQL 2022. Fall back to SQL 2019, if necessary. Completely forget about SQL 2014. Sounds like a plan?

SSIS is not an issue for me. I am able to install SSIS 2019 and that is working fine.

The issue is with SQL Server.....I am struggling to install that.

Another thing is regarding Hindi language. This is not my need. Am ok with English. Am not sure how Hindi got choosen automatically.

For the installation of SQL Server, do you have any option to take the system on remote and do the installation ?

If there is no such option t take system on remote and do the installation, then I will retry to install SQL Server 2019 because my Visual Studio is 2019 version where am working on SSIS. So for smooth compatibility purpose I'll try installing SQL Server 2019 and will share all the errors which all I will get during the installation process.

No, I'm not connecting remotely to other people's computer. I'm just a community member who answer questions in my free time.

I think the SQL 2019 installation will run fine if you only observant on the collation tab. If you get the browser-service error as well, we will have to tackle it. (Although, I don't know how.)

Try Running Setup Again and choose Repair.

And in the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\160\Setup Bootstrap\Log there is one folder per install attempt. The one of most interest is Detail.txt. Feel free to attach it here.
