Hello

Please i need your help on this issue.

New user created 30 minutes ago and exchange online mailbox still not been created - message says " We are preparing a mailbox for the user.

We have assisgned E3 license. We deleted and recreated – hoping it would come up – but it did not.

It was after 6 hours post creation of the account:

  1. We’ve created hundreds of accounts in the last 12 months and have never seen the process take longer than 15 minutes – suspect an MS issue at the time.
  2. Was the only new hire I had to create accounts for that day, deleting and recreating the accounts had no affect.
  3. The new hire started, we needed to get the accounts done. After waiting 6 hours it seemed to work? But still got the following error in the M365 admin portal:

    Hello, @John Peter,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A platform!

Typically, mailbox creation should be completed within 30 minutes, but it can sometimes take up to 24 hours due to various factors such as licensing issues, service interruptions, or system load.

Here are a few things to consider and steps you might take:

1.Verify User Licenses: Double-check that the user is assigned a valid Exchange Online license in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Reassigning the license might help.

2.Check Service Health: Visit the Microsoft 365 admin center to review the status of services and see if there are any advisories affecting mailbox provisioning.

3.PowerShell Verification: Use Exchange Online PowerShell to verify mailbox status. For example, run: Get-Mailbox -Identity "UserName" This can confirm whether the mailbox actually exists even if the admin portal shows an error message.

4.Clear Browser Cache: Sometimes, clearing your browser’s cache or trying a different browser can resolve display issues in the admin panel.

5.Run Diagnostics: Use the diagnostic tool in the Microsoft 365 admin center to identify and resolve any issues with mailbox provisioning.

For more guidance on this issue, please refer to Delays in provisioning a user or mailbox - Exchange | Microsoft Learn.

Should you need more help on this, you can feel free to post back.
