Configure network settings in Windows App

Depending on your local network configuration, you might need to configure network settings, such as Remote Desktop gateway or a proxy, to connect to your devices and apps. This article shows you how to configure network settings in Windows App for macOS, iOS and iPadOS. There are no network settings to configure in Windows App for Windows or a web browser.

Prerequisites

Before you can configure network settings, you need:

• Windows App installed on your local device.

Network settings

Select a tab for the platform you're using.

macOS

Here are the network settings you can configure in Windows App for macOS.

Gateway settings

You can configure Windows App to use a Remote Desktop gateway when you connect to a remote PC.

Add or remove a Remote Desktop gateway

To add or remove a Remote Desktop gateway:

1. Open Windows App.

2. From the macOS menu bar, select Windows App, then select Settings.

3. On the Preferences pane, select the Gateways tab.

4. To add a Remote Desktop gateway, select the + (plus) icon and enter values in the fields for Gateway name and Friendly name.

5. For Saved credential, select the drop-down menu, then select from one of the following:

   1. Select Use PC Credential to use the same credential you use to connect to the remote PC.

   2. Select an existing saved credential.

   3. To add a new credential, select Add Saved Credential, enter values for Username, Password, and optionally Friendly name, then select Add

6. Select Add.

7. To remove a Remote Desktop gateway, select the gateway you want to remove, then select the - (minus) icon. Confirm that you want to delete the gateway by selecting Delete, the close the settings.

Configure a remote PC to use a gateway

1. Select Devices, then find the remote PC for which you want to use a gateway.

2. Select the ellipses (...) on the card of the device, then select Edit.

3. On the General tab, for Gateway, select the drop-down menu, then select a gateway you added in Add or remove a Remote Desktop gateway.

4. Optional: to bypass local network addresses, check the box Bypass for local addresses.

5. Select Save.

Proxy settings

You can configure Windows App to use the system proxy configuration of your local device to connect to your devices and apps. To use the system proxy:

1. Open Windows App.

2. From the macOS menu bar, select Windows App, then select Settings.

3. On the Preferences pane, select the General tab.

4. Check the box for Use system proxy configuration.

iOS/iPadOS

Here are the network settings you can configure in Windows App for iOS and iPadOS.

Gateway settings

You can configure Windows App to use a Remote Desktop gateway when you connect to a remote PC.

Add or remove a Remote Desktop gateway

To add or remove a Remote Desktop gateway:

1. Open Windows App.

2. Tap the cog icon for Settings, or tap your user account picture to open the settings pane.

3. Tap Gateways, then tap Add Gateway.

4. Tap Gateway Name and enter a hostname or IP address, then tap the back arrow (<).

5. Tap Credentials, then select from one of the following:

   1. Select Use PC Credential to use the same credential you use to connect to the remote PC.

   2. Select an existing saved credential.

   3. To add a new credential, select Add Credentials, enter values for Username, Password, and optionally Friendly name, then select Save

6. Tap the back arrow (<).

7. Optional: if you want to enter a friendly name for the gateway connection, tap Friendly Name and enter a name, then tap the back arrow (<).

8. Tap Save.

9. To remove a Remote Desktop gateway, select the gateway you want to remove, then swipe left on the gateway you want to remove, then select Delete. Alternatively, tap the gateway, then tap Delete.

Configure a remote PC to use a gateway

1. Select Devices, then find the remote PC for which you want to use a gateway.

2. Tap and hold the remote PC, then tap Edit.

3. In the section Gateway, tap No Gateway Configured, then select a gateway you added in Add or remove a Remote Desktop gateway.

4. Tap Save.

Proxy settings

You can configure Windows App to use the HTTP proxy specified in the network settings of your local device to connect to your devices and apps. To use the HTTP proxy:

1. Open Windows App.

2. Tap the cog icon for Settings, or tap your user account picture to open the settings pane.

3. Tap General

4. Toggle Use HTTP Proxy to On.
