Scenario

You will work with assets. You will perform the following tasks in the USMF Company:

  • Create an asset
  • Copy an asset or asset structure
  • Use the Move to parent asset feature
  • Create an asset item

Create an asset

Munson’s Pickles and Preserves Farm has purchased a new air knife for your production line. Your job is to add this new asset into the system.

  1. Go to Asset Management > Assets > All assets, or Active assets, or My active assets.
  2. Select New to open the Create asset dialog box.
  3. In the Asset field, enter AK-401 as the Asset ID. This ID tells you that it is air knife (AK) – for line 4 (401).
  4. In the Name field, enter the asset name as AK-401-Air Knife for Line 4.
  5. The Effective field automatically adds the current date and time. Enter the date and time for the asset.
  6. In the Asset type field, select Air Knife.
  7. In the Functional location field, select PP-01.
  8. When you are finished, select OK.

Copy an asset or asset structure

You just found out that Munson’s Pickles and Preserves Farm has also purchased another air knife for line 5. It also happens to be the same type of air knife that is on line 1.

  1. Go to Asset Management > Assets > All assets and select the asset you want to copy. Select AK-101. A check mark will appear next to your selection.
  2. From the Asset menu, go to the New sub section under the Asset Pane and select Copy asset. The Copy asset structure dialog box appears.
  3. In the Copy to section, enter the name AK-501 in the Asset field. The Effective field is automatically set to today’s date.
  4. Select OK. The new asset appears in the All Assets list.

Use the Move to parent asset feature

The air knife on line 2 is being reassigned as a sub asset to line 1. Use the Move to parent asset function to move this asset to the new parent asset structure.

  1. Go to Asset Management > Assets > All assets or Active assets.
  2. Select the asset that you want to move. Select AK-201.
  3. Under the Action Pane and under the Maintain submenu, select Move to parent asset. The Move to parent asset dialog box appears.
  4. Select the New parent asset (AK-101) from the drop-down menu. After you have selected the new parent asset, information that is related to the parent automatically populates the Name, Effective, and Target functional location fields. If needed, you can select a different target functional location.
  5. By default, the Effective field is set to the current date and time. However, you can change the date to accurately reflect when the asset was moved or updated.
  6. Select OK. AK-201 now reflects its parent as AK-101.

Create an asset item

You purchased a new white paint base that will be used on the blenders. Now, you need to set up the asset item so that it can be used to create blenders from a purchase order.

  1. Go to Asset Management > Setup > Assets > Items and select New.
  2. In the Item number field, select the item P3000 (WhitePaintGallonCan) from the drop-down menu.
  3. On the General FastTab, in the Asset type field, select Blender from the drop-down menu.
  4. Select Save. After you have saved the asset item, the product name automatically appears.
  5. Close the page.

Close the lab environment

  1. Select Done in the Instructions pane in the lab side bar.
  2. In the Lab is complete window, select Continue, and then select Leave to return to the next unit in the module.
