Performance reviews

Completed

Performance reviews, formally known as discussions, are now flexible enough to support continuous feedback, development plans, and more formal reviews. You can quickly create brief meetings for two people or build a more complex review that aligns with your company's review process.

Several components are available to include in performance reviews, such as review details, along with a template, measurements, activities, ratings, and goals with their respective templates. For more information, see Performance reviews in the product documentation.

Goal templates

You can generate a template from a goal and subsequently use it to create new goals that follow the same structure. When you create a template from a goal, it preserves the description, topics, and target measurements. However, the template excludes specific measurements, completion dates, and comments that are related to that goal.

To create a goal template, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Human resources > Performance > Setup > Goal templates.
  2. Select New.
  3. Enter a Template name, and then under the General section, enter the Name, Overview, and Goal category. After you verify that all information on the page is correct, select Save.
  4. To view your newly created goal template, go to the Employee self service workspace and select View all goals.
  5. Select Add goal from template on the Action Pane and then select the goal template that you previously created.

Review templates

You can generate new reviews by using templates that you create. For example, you can have templates for one-on-one reviews, development plans, or periodic reviews. When creating a new review, you can select the appropriate template.

To create a review template, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Human resources > Performance > Setup > Review templates.
  2. Select New on the Action Pane.
  3. Enter a Review template, and then under the General section, enter a Review type. Then, enter other information that you want to include.
  4. Select Save.

Rating templates

In Dynamics 365 Human Resources, rating templates serve as structured frameworks for assessing and evaluating employee performance or skills against predefined criteria.

Rating models

Rating models assist in assessing an individual's current skill level, their target proficiency, or the necessary skill level for a particular role or task.

To create a rating model, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Human resources > Competencies > Setup > Rating models.
  2. Select New on the Action Pane and then enter a Rating and Description.
  3. Expand the Levels FastTab and then define a Level, Description, and Factor. You can add extra notes by expanding the Notes FastTab.
  4. After you define different rating models, you can specify a default rating model by going to Human resources > Setup > Human resources shared parameters.
  5. Select the Performance tab and then specify the default rating in the Performance review rating model.

Apply a rating from a rating template to a review

To apply a rating from a rating template to a review, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Human resources > Performance > Reviews. Select the desired review from the list or create a new one.
  2. When you're inside the review, select the Ratings tab.
  3. Select the desired rating in the Final employee rating field.

Note

The rating template display depends on the rating model that the Human Resources shared parameters page specifies as the default rating model.
